peek under the hood
How do you create your own brand as a branding studio? A look into our process.
The story behind Ambio Branding
No matter how many brands you’ve built, creating one your own is a unique type of puzzle. You need to be able to be objective about something that feels very personal, and to nail down specific definitions while leaving other elements open-ended and evocative.
initial notes
To start, we centered on the idea of bringing both sides of the mind together. Logic & emotion. Strategy & creativity. Research & intuition. This play on opposites, or even fundamental points of tension, is key to building a brand that resonates.
Defining the Idea
Category Definition
Building a company’s core identity, or an identity for a campaign, is what we do. That’s why we landed on Branding Studio. “Studio” captures the flexible way that Ambio runs.
Purpose Statement
We specialize in working with companies who need strategic guidance in aligning a diverse team around their goals, and building a creative plan to get there. That’s why we landed on “Connect your strategic focus to your creative possibilities.”
Name & logo
“Ambio” is a play on the Latin root “ambi,” which means “both.”
Together, the name and logo depict both hemispheres of the brain coming together to tell a story that is at once logical and emotional, strategic and creative.
Visual Identity
Designer Sandy Meirovitz built the visual identity. Sandy embodies everything Ambio is all about—she’s creative and intuitive, while also being strategic and analytical. She immediately translated the central metaphor into a design system that features dynamic contrast.
The illustration style and example illustrations Sandy created evoke the idea of the left and right brain coming together to celebrate all different kinds of perspectives, and the serendipity of what can come from that process.
